Runnymede in Surrey is world famous at the site chosen by King John to sign the Magna Carta in 1215. It’s also the home of a go ahead local authority, Runnymede Borough Council, who are committed to the development of high quality leisure facilities. We are working with RBC on a playing pitch strategy linked to the local plan. This is to ensure that there are sufficient playing fields and pitches and associated indoor facilities to meet the needs of the community which is expected to grow by 14,000 in coming years.
As with all our playing pitch strategies we are working closely with the governing bodies of sport, the county sports partnership and Sport England. In Surrey we are also able to draw on the expertise of highly active Surrey Playing Fields Association.
We’ve completed the assessment and the action plan has been approved and adopted by the council.
