We have spent last winter and the early part of 2015 working with Blaby District Council in Leicestershire and Cotswold District Council in Gloucestershire on playing pitch and open space assessments. In common with many local authorities they are currently updating their Local Plans. In line with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) this includes the generation of local standards of provision for indoor and outdoor sports and leisure provision. These standards are to ensure good access to sports and leisure opportunities both in the short term and as the districts’ populations grow.
Both districts include some of the finest landscapes in the country so it’s been a pleasure spending time out on site. We also had the unique experience of carrying out a football pitch assessment in the middle of the 2015 solar eclipse.
Both projects are in the final consultative stages before going through the formal adoption process linked to the Local Plans.
