We’ve been working in the heart of the Garden of England looking to secure sports and leisure provision in Maidstone. We are working with the borough council on an assessment of indoor and outdoor leisure provision, Once again this is linked to the local plan and is to senure that there are sufficient, high quality facilities to meet the needs of the borough now and in the future.
Maidstone is in the heart of Kent giving residents easy access to London, the coast and Channel ports and to the county’s many areas of outstanding natural beauty. This excellent location brings a high level of development pressure and the borough’s population could grow by over 30,000 people by 2031. Such growth will bring increased demand for leisure facilities – hence the strategy.
We’ve been working with the council, the county sports partnership, the governing bodies of sport, Sport England and the local sporting community to develop a clear picture of local needs and aspirations. Our final report and recommendations have just (February 2019) been formally adopted by the council.
