We have been working during the summer in Waveney, the most easterly local authority area in England. This area includes the rural towns of Beccles and Bungay, the attractive seaside town of Southwold and the main settlement of Lowestoft.
We’ve been commissioned to carry out a playing pitch assessment using the new Sport England methodology which replaces “Towards a Level Playing Field.” The key features of the new approach are a greater involvement for the governing bodies of sport and the emphasis on identifying strategically important sites. The NGBs most closely involved are the FA, RFU, England Hockey and the England and Wales Cricket Board through their county associations. We are also looking at facilities for athletics, cycling and tennis and working with these county associations.
We have submitted our draft report which Waveney District Council is now considering.
