We have just completed a pre-feasibility study for a new sports hall for Woodbrook Vale School in Loughborough. The school, which became an academy last year, is moving from a middle school to a full secondary school. As a result it is expanding from 500 to 750 students. It needs improved facilities to meet the PE needs of these pupils especially those who will take a GCSE in PE.
We examined the local market and advised on the likelihood of achieving grant aid. Interestingly, despite having a higher than average supply of sports halls there is still considerable un-met demand in the Loughborough area, perhaps because of the high concentration of students in that neck of the woods. This supports the case for community based funding for Woodbrook Vale.
The school’s governors are considering our report before moving to a full finance and design study.
